Heater builder conference is heating up

Masonry heater builders return to North Carolina for annual event.

Little Switzerland, NC–The Masonry Heater Association of North America's annual conference is stacking up to train the world's next heater masons.

Staring with a multi-day class on the theory and practice of building masonry heaters, a group of aspiring heater builders join a 28 hour online class that concludes with 3 days of hands-on building.

Nearly 90 heater, stove and brick oven builders will convene at the Wildacres Retreat for nearly a week of education, training, networking and building. The MHA annual builds several styles of masonry heaters and pizza ovens to allow craftspeople to learn beginning, intermediate and advanced techniques in building and design.

The more experience builders typically compete in the annual design and build content which is also hosted by the MHA. Competition categories include general masonry, brick oven and masonry heater. Winners in each category are awarded trophies and recognized at the conference and the organization's website.

During the week long conference at the top of the Blue Ridge mountains, craftspeople, including certified heater builders, convene to share their experiences in building, working with clients, running a small business, discussing best practices and building new designs.

The Fiesta de la Pizza is the culmination of building several pizza ovens and a great way to celebrate a week of work by heater and stove builders from throughout the world. More information is available here
